Journaling - Creating your own personal bible
/Today I am really grateful today for an article written by Kimberly Amici posted on Faithgateway as it reminded me about what inspired me to create products that build faith, through "journaling" our everyday lives. I enjoy writing my thoughts down, so journaling comes naturally to me, however this was not always the case and it took encouragement and practice to really get in the flow of it but boy am I thankful I kept at it! As I read and reflect on some of my journals from 15, 20 years ago I am so encouraged and motivated.
My advice is just start by writing down your dreams, thoughts, revelations, ideas, fears, hopes, anything, There's no order for how and when you write them down, just pour them out on paper...date them though. It can include even random things that you would never have thought to write down. Trust me, when you read these years later you will be surprised how useful those supposedly random thoughts are in figuring out where you are, where you need to be and what God has been saying to you over the years.
There is something liberating about pouring thoughts on paper; it gives us insight into our true selves, our inner man; that still small voice that resides in our deepest thoughts. Isn't it interesting that God; by pouring out His thoughts through different people who later wrote them down, gave us the bible - the ultimate journal written by several different people, spanning different time frames. God gave us the bible to guide, encourage and instruct us (Rom 15:4), our journals can do the same for us and even possibly for others...
Writing in a journal is a habit that will change you, inspire you, encourage you and marvel at three things:
- How good God is - so many answered prayers, so much grace
- How far I have come along in maturity - some stuff I wrote down years ago reveals that the journey of maturing and being pruned by God is exactly that, a journey.
- God's instructions on next steps to take in life during my quiet time. The answers never seems obvious when I write the stuff down but later on when I go back to read it, it becomes crystal clear. The journal becomes a road map.
I imagine that once we purpose to write things down, especially during our reflective/quiet time and invite the Holy Spirit, there is excitement in the spiritual realm because these writings could become...well only God knows what they will become...
Your personal "bible" is waiting to be filled :)
